Unite members who work at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (Aldermaston and Burghfield) took their campaign for pension justice to the MoD in Whitehall yesterday (February 21).
On the ninth day of strike action some Unite members held a protest at the MoD in Whitehall and were calling on defence secretary Michael Fallon to speak with them to resolve this dispute.
The dispute centres around copper-bottomed promises made in the early 1990s by the then Tory government to AWE workers regarding the future of their pensions, once they transferred to the private sector. These promises have now been broken as AWE bosses closed the defined benefit pension scheme leaving employees facing thousands of pounds being slashed from their retirement income.
