Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me

Unite’s Joy Johnson reworks ‘Ickle Me Pickle Me’ on the ‘absurdity’ of the current Brexit situation
Joy Johnson, Unite political department, Friday, August 23rd, 2019

Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me too,

The Tories have staged

a twenty first century coup

He’s only in Downing Street because of a few

Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me too

Wielding the axe to the Cabinet we knew

deal or no deal we’re leaving the EU

Said Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me too

Ickle was captain, Pickle was crew,

And Tickle served coffee to MPs in a stew

As higher

And higher

And higher they flew

Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me too

Over the sun and beyond the blue

Hold on!

Stay in!

As remainers are desperate to do

Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me too

Never cared for the Europe we all knew,

Do or die we’re leaving the EU

So if you see the Prime Minister

Flying towards a disaster

Recklessly, mercilessly forcing it through

Let Boris Johnson hear you

And just say boo

This Shel Silverstein poem has been adapted by Joy Johnson, Unite political department, after her 12 year old granddaughter recited the original. She says, “it struck me that it was as absurd as the political situation is now so I reworked it.”
