Building the union

Latest Building Worker hits the streets

Reading time: 3 min

Unite construction sector activists were busy on Friday (6 June) distributing the latest Building Worker journal to workers going to work at a central London site.

The union activists were handing out copies near Oxford Circus, and Unite national officer Declan Murphy said, “We were out early in the West End this morning, with branch members, letting workers on a Skanska and a Bovis project know they have a union out there, ready and willing to fight for them.”

“We were very pleased to be joined by one of our EC members, Stuart Grice, and were also delighted to realise that we were handing the magazine in the shadow of trade union legend, Ernest Bevin’s old residence.”

The Building Worker is seen by the construction sector as an important organising and recruitment tool. It is not only a way for members to keep up to date with the latest news and campaigns from Unite, but also something that can be shared in canteens with non members to show them the benefits of being in a union.

The latest edition has stories covering skills, pay claims, health and safety issues, equalities, new construction projects, training and much more.
