Mental Health Day at Hinkley Point C

Unite reps at Hinkley Point C have spoken about the vital role of Health and Safety reps in the workplace in a new video from Unite South West.

The film hears from Unite reps Sam Thomas and Maria Boyle and focuses on the toll that working away from home and family for long periods of time can have on the mental health of many workers at Hinkley Point C. The reps explain why Unite South West, alongside their Regional Health & Safety Committee, organised a Mental Health Awareness Day to the construction site.

The event aimed to get people talking, break down stigma and remind workers that support is always there.

Unite regional secretary Steve Preddy praised the outstanding work by Unite Safety reps at the site in keeping members safe and encouraging physical and mental wellbeing at work.

Mental health is a safety issue and Unite Education offers training to reps. No one should feel alone, and Unite will always stand with workers to protect their wellbeing at work and beyond.
