Hajera Blagg

Hajera Blagg has been writing for UniteLIVE since its inception in 2014, when she began work as a trainee journalist for Unite the Union. She also writes for the union’s print publications including Landworker, BuildingWORKER and formerly UniteWORKS magazines.

In her time with Unite, Hajera is grateful to have had so many unique experiences – from interviewing the former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn; to donning the badger costume for the inimitable Skimmity Hitchers set at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival; to speaking to hundreds of Unite members on strike on picket lines across the country and much more.

Before working for Unite, Hajera completed a master’s degree in journalism at the University of London – Goldsmiths. During this time, she was the industrial relations reporter for East London Lines, a local online news site covering the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Croydon and Lewisham. A print magazine she and a fellow MA students produced, Under London, was shortlisted for the BBC Worldwide Best Student Magazine Award in 2014.

Hajera was born in Mexico, and grew up in the border town of Mission, Texas. She later moved to Houston, where she worked first as a staff writer and then content manager for the startup SEO firm Consumer Media Network (CMN).

In her spare time, Hajera enjoys playing the fiddle, travelling, cooking, birdwatching and spoiling her dog Tommy, much to the annoyance of her long-suffering partner Myles.
