Unite tells Labour “Stop blocking the deal”

Reading time: 3 min

Billboards supporting striking bin workers have appeared across Birmingham calling for no pay cuts for the city’s refuse crews and telling Labour to stop blocking the deal.

The latest move in the campaign to protect bin workers’ pay comes just days after polling showed that residents in Birmingham would not accept pay cuts equivalent to those the city council wants to impose on striking bin men, a new survey shows.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said, “The attack on bin workers’ pay is abhorrent and unnecessary. It’s causing untold damage to the reputation of Birmingham councillors, especially Birmingham Council Leader, John Cotton.

“It is time he got in the room and solved this dispute.”

As the strike continues in Birmingham due to a lack of movement from the council, Unite branches across the country are continuing to show support with rally’s and meetings in solidarity.

Unite is asking people to send John Cotton a postcard supporting the bin workers and saying ‘Stop attacking your workers
