Cleethorpes marches for Linsdey
Workers campaign to Save Lindsey Oil Refinery grows
Reading time: 3 min
Lindsey oil refinery workers, along with families and supporters, marched through the seaside town of Cleethorpes on Sunday (24 August) as part of the growing campaign to save the North Lincolnshire refinery.
The refinery provides 10% of the UK’s fuel supply, is crucial to the regional economy and Unite is determined that its future must be secured.
Protesters calling for the government to intervene and protect workers, oil supplies and the local community gathered at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre before marching along the seafront to the town’s Victorian Pier.
The campaign to “Save Lindsey Oil Refinery” is growing and Unite is calling on members and supports to join workers at a rally taking place at 11am on Wednesday 3rd September outside the Houses of Parliament.
As well as the march at Cleethopes and next weeks rally in London workers have organised protests outside Lindsey Oil Refinery and Grimsby Town Hall in July.
More details of the Parliamentary Rally will be released over the coming days, and you can keep up to date with the latest information on the Unite Live and Unite for a Workers Economy websites.
