'Covid secure hotels' call

Unite hospitality organiser Bryan Simpson: 'gov't plans for quarantine hotels fail to put in place even the most basic safety provisions'

The BBC today (February 12) revealed leaked government guidelines for hotel operators ahead of its quarantine hotels policy which is due to begin on Monday (February 15), where travelers from ‘red list’ countries must quarantine in government-arranged hotels.

The leak revealed just how substandard the government’s guidelines are compared to Australia’s, where a similar policy is in place.

Unite has argued that the guidelines fail to protect hotel workers, who are among the lowest-paid workers in the country and who have already suffered so much throughout the pandemic.
