Unite supports diabetes safety

Diabetes Awareness Week: Unite promotes safety kits at work

Reading time: 2 min

It’s Diabetes Awareness Week this week (June 10-16), and Unite West Midlands is proud to be supporting the Diabetes Safety Organisation (DSO) with their rollout of workplace safety kits (pictured) and awareness information.

The DSO engages with and helps employers on diabetes awareness, offers training for employees and supplies businesses with emergency hypo kits.

Often diabetes is not recorded as the reason for an accident in the workplace, yet a sugar hypo attack can often be reduced if these kits were made available.

Lead officer for construction in the West Midlands Stuart Baker has asked a number of his contractors and employers who he regularly works with to consider these kits and the information offered as part of their health and safety strategies in their workplaces.

Construction being a very safety-critical area of work, having these kits to hand can be vital, in the same way all workplaces have first aid kits and defibrillators.
