Unite joined the wider trade union movement at the 138th Durham Miners’ Gala this weekend, where attendees marked the 40th anniversary of the miners’ strike.

Held on the second Saturday of July each year, the gala sees trade union members and their friends and families descend on the city of Durham for the largest gathering in the trade union calendar. Unite members marched throughout the city carrying an array of different banners alongside the event’s iconic brass band. The gala culminates at the Racecourse where leaders from the union movement give speeches. Later in the afternoon, a miners’ service is held at the Durham Cathedral.
