London bus strikes off
London bus strikes suspended following improved pay offer
A 48 hour bus strike, involving bus drivers employed by Arriva, has been suspending following an improved pay offer.
The dispute involves over 1,000 bus drivers, who are members of Unite, and employed at the Brixton, Croydon, Norwood and Thornton Heath depots.
Following fresh talks with management this week an improved pay offer was made. As a consequence the strike which was due to begin on Monday, May 16, has been suspended.
The drivers have already taken three days of strike action in the dispute with the latest strike taking place this week on Wednesday (May 11).
Unite national officer Bobby Morton said, “By standing firm and united our members have sent a clear message to Arriva that they are determined to secure a fair pay increase.
“Arriva has now made an improved pay offer which members will now ballot on.”
The members will now be balloted on the improved offer and if it is accepted the present dispute will end.
