Oscar goes to Liverpool
Bin workers take their message to Labour Conference
Reading time: 2 min
Oscar the Grouch has been in Liverpool this week backing Birmingham bin workers and telling delegates at the Labour Party Conference that Unite will fight the “fire and rehire” of its members.
The lime green legend was popular with delegates keen to get a selfie and show their support for workers facing pay cuts of up to £8000 a year.
The long running dispute over changes to terms and conditions has widespread support throughout the local community and wider trade union movement.
Earlier this month thousands of people took to the streets of Birmingham and marched to the city centre under the banner of “Back the Bin Strikers”.
Over recent months posters and billboards across the city have been popping and raising awareness of the issues involved, and you can find out more about the campaign here.
Below are just some photos of Oscar and his new friends in Liverpool – and if you are at the Conference at the moment, seek him out and show your support.
