Unite members employed by Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) began strike action today (December 1) in a dispute over savage wage cuts imposed on the workforce through a brutal fire and rehire programme.
The striking workers, which include staff that are critical to the operation of the airport, such as firefighters, engineers, campus security, baggage operations, central terminal operations, landside and airside operations, overwhelmingly voted for strike action with 84 per cent in favour.
They are fighting the imposition of fire and rehire contracts which would force them to accept permanent pay cuts of £8,000 a year.
