Unite’s annual Black History Month awards was held on Friday (23rd October) at a gala evening in Birmingham.  The awards recognise and celebrate the contributions of Black and Asian Ethnic Minority (BAEM) activists and representatives within Unite and the trade union movement.

The awards ceremony celebrates the hard work and achievements of BAEM members and allies for their role in promoting equality and justice in the workplace and the union, and brought together union members, activists, and leaders.

The awards gala heard passionate speeches and inspiring stories from across the union, highlighting Unite’s commitment to equality. Now in its third year, the awards have become a key part of Unite’s Black History Month celebrations.

Following the event Unite general secretary Sharon Graham posted on social media that, “Unite’s Third Black History Month awards gala was truly inspiring as Unite paid tribute to the many BAEM reps and activists for their vital contributions to the trade union movement.”
