Unite Women gather in London
Unite women “share stories and build solidarity”

Unite organised an inspiring International Women’s Day Reception in Conway Hall this Wednesday (March 5th) to bring together members for an inspirational evening celebrating women in trade unions and highlighting the victories women activists have won.
The evening gathering was hosted by Unite’s London & Eastern Women’s committee at Conway Hall in Red Lion Square, and timed to tie in with the annual TUC Women’s Conference. It was a chance for Unite delegates and women activists from across the region and beyond to meet each other and share experiences away from the business of the Conference.
The event drew in over 40 members for an evening of food, music, union resources, and special guest speakers, which included some of the brilliant women union reps who have led recent strike action and industrial disputes.
They heard from a number of Unite speakers, including:
Paula Brennan – Chair of the L&E WC
Angela Duerden – EC member for women
Jane Stewart – Chair of National WC
Siobhan Endean – Acting director of equality
Alison Spencer-Scragg – National Officer for women
Alison said, “We then invited those attending to also their experiences and why they became active in the union.
“It was a great networking event as women had the opportunity to share stories and build solidarity.
“Women members are at the heart of Unite, and bringing so many of them together to share their stories and experiences was extremely powerful.”
