Bridgwater remembers - in photos

A sea of Unite flags filled Blake Gardens in Bridgwater on Friday (April 24th), as construction workers from Hinkley Point C (HPC) and trade union activists gathered around the Unite Workers Memorial to mark International Workers Memorial Day (IWMD).

A large crowd gathered in the sun for the annual commemoration and heard from speakers including, Unite general secretary Sharon Graham, Unite reps Nick Halsall and Sam Thomas and Ines Lage, TUC South West Regional Secretary. 

Following the ceremony, at a reception in Blake Hall, Sharon Graham formally signed Unite’s landmark Women in Construction PPE Charter with Rob Jordan, Project Construction Director Rob at HPC. 

The general secretary said afterwards that the Charter was “A fantastic initiative to ensure that PPE is provided to women that is safe, suitable, fit for purpose and dignified to wear. This ensures that women workers are better protected at work and is yet another demonstration of the work that happens tirelessly at Hinkley.”
